fruit and vegBarnack and Villages Horticultural Show and Fete 2014
Lots of people have commented how they have missed the Horticultural Show this year.  Would you like to see this annual village event back in the summer of 2014?
To organise and run the show next year, a band of willing volunteers is needed to get together and form a committee. Being part of the organisation of the show can be a great way to put something back into your community, gardening experience is not necessary!
Last year’s volunteering was all about the Games, now get local!
I f you are interested and would like to know what is involved, come along to an informal meeting  at Barnack  Village Hall on 18th September 2013 at 7.30pm.
For further information contact Debra Martin on Tel: 740048.

The Buttercross Club
On Wednesday, August 7th, the Buttercross Club held the annual Boules tournament at Bainton House. The weather was dry and warm and it was lovely to see young and not so young enjoying themselves.  Each team comprised two people and the evening culminated in a final which saw ‘The Undecided’ taking the honours and, more importantly, receiving the prize of a box of chocolates each. We are very grateful to Mrs. Judith Morrice for generously donating the refreshments and soft drinks and to Mr. Andy Totten for being the ‘scoremaster’. Many thanks to the Honourable Mrs. Mary Birkbeck for once again allowing us the use of her lovely gardens and for providing us with an unexpected but very welcome donation of additional refreshments.  The evening was enjoyed by all who attended whether they participated or just watched and chatted.
Diary Dates: On Wednesday, September 4th, our speaker is Jackie Pringle, the Cambridgeshire wildlife photographer.  The Harvest Supper will be on Wednesday, October 2nd.  Elizabeth St. Hill Davies is the guest speaker and her topic is ‘Kill or Cure’.

Barnack School Association
A big thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising events over the past school year. They have proved very successful and we have been able to support our school greatly with donations such as school trips/swimming buses (£2000), 16 digital cameras, cases and memory cards, kit for the cross country team and repairs to the adventure playground.
This year we were very lucky to receive generous sponsorship for our advertising of 2 events. The Winter Fayre was sponsored by Smiths Gore Estate Agents and the Fun Run by Hurfords Estate Agents. Their advertising helped to increase numbers attending and the funds raised - thank you very much.
The history of Barnack School has been written by Brian Palmer and he is very kindly donating all proceeds from the sale of the books (£5.00 each) to the school. They are available for purchase from Barnack Post Office or by contacting Michelle Goodwin (01780 749337).
Thank you for your continued support we look forward to seeing you soon.
