Ultrafast Broadband August Update
The Gigaclear Ultrafast Broadband project is now gaining pace with the Ufford and Barnack cabinets installed. A 7.5km spur to Marholm has started, to link that village in.
Please accept apologies from Gigaclear and John Henry’s contractors for the delays caused with so much work required on the roads and footpaths. They are getting faster and quality has improved.
Southorpe and the southern half of Barnack are fed from the Ufford cabinet so they will go live at the same time, with Pilsgate and Barnack soon after. Everyone wil get an invite to the Ufford Village Hall to try out their own tablets and computers on the new service.
Bainton’s cabinet is next, linking to Tallington and Ashton in the next month or so, with Helpston’s installation starting from the far end in Heath Road and working back towards West Street.
As soon as more news is available it will go on the community website: ultrafastpeterboroughvale.info

Ultrafast Broadband - Another Warning
In the July issue of the PN a warning was given regarding the roll out of the BT Superfast Broadband service (page 8—it is not apparent who wrote this article).  To balance the argument your readers may be interested in the following.
As Ufford residents my wife and I signed up for Gigaclear after meeting with  Gigaclear’s representative. In view of the fact that we live about 50 metres from the road we enquired re installation costs and were told that it would be £250. This figure was also stated on the Gigaclear documents we received which confirmed the order.
After our “port” was installed we asked Boxcom (Gigaclear’s installation contractors) to  give us their confirmed quotation for the installation. A Boxcom officer visited our property and we then received a written quotation in excess of £2000. We contacted Gigaclear who immediately released us from the contract. As of 3rd July we are now up and running with fibre broadband from BT at a connection fee of £35.
Your readers who live some distance from the road should be very aware of  these possible extra charges.
Bernard and Irene Land, Ufford

Family Day Thank You
To everyone who took part in our Bainton & Ashton Family Day 2015.  A wonderful day, incredibly well supported and even the rain held off until after the tug of war – what more could we have asked for.  Special thank you(s) to Chris, Sophie & family for once again opening their house and grounds to our villages & thank you to our wonderful stall holders - thank you for all your hard work and time given to make the event such a success.
As yet we haven’t the final figure but again we have raised over £3,000.  Thank you.
Lost Property: I have a pair of prescription sunglasses if anyone would like to claim them please call Su on 740034.

Thank you from Elizabeth
Elizabeth Snowball would like to thank all her friends for the cards, flowers and messages of support during her recent illness.
The kind wishes were very much appreciated.
Lost Shopping Trolley
Elizabeth Snowball left a bag on wheels/personal shopping trolley at the Barnack Fete in Church and it has disappeared.
The bag and contents have sentimental value, so if anyone knows where the trolley was put, please could they contact Elizabeth or email Lisa Chadwick This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. who will pass the message on.

Barnack Fete Thanks
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the Fete in Barnack Churchyard on Saturday 21 June. It was a real success and in total £2384 was raised, which was a wonderful result. As you know we have a famous and historic church building, which is very expensive to maintain.
It was a lovely sunny afternoon and, after the official opening by David Over, the churchyard and the church were buzzing with activity.
A lot of hard work went in beforehand and throughout the morning. Another huge thank you goes to all the many church members who helped set up in the morning and clear up afterwards, run the many stalls, competitions and games and serve the teas and also to the ladies who came to support us with their craft stalls. It was a really lovely event in the village calendar

Holiday at Home with the Community Church
Our Holiday at Home day in May was popular with about 25 people having lunch together in the old schoolroom at the Chapel.       We are holding another Holiday at Home day on Wednesday August 12th at the Community Chapel , Main Street Barnack.
Again the focus will be on friendship and fun, and we are currently planning craft activities to try out in the morning, a nice cooked lunch, and some kind of entertainment for the afternoon and there’ll be morning coffee, and afternoon tea with homemade cakes.
We are hoping that the weather will be good enough to sit and relax outside too!   All for just £4 per person.
We extend a warm welcome to everyone who would like a ‘holiday’ on their doorstep.   Look out for posters around the villages or pick up a leaflet from Barnack Post Office or ring Margaret Durdey on 740459 to find out more.

VOLUNTEER STILL WANTED
The Parish News is still seeking a volunteer to help organise the adverts in the magazine.
This is NOT a big job!
It simply involves taking enquiries for adverts via email, invoicing when someone books and keeping track of payments.
You would also need to check if advertisers would like to re-book when their advertising period comes to an end (usually once a year).
Taking adverts in the Parish News has meant that this valuable village resource has been able to continue even when donations have dwindled during the leaner times.
Without a volunteer we will have to stop taking adverts.
If you think you could help, please contact Lisa
