Article on “In Flanders Fields”
Having just read the above article it was obvious to me the author has made a mistake, saying quote: “we found Percy listed on the Menin Gate Memorial ( listed as ‘Private H Mumms ‘)”. It is my understanding that the Menin Gate Memorial is for persons who have no known grave, where as Percy Munns has a grave at Mendingham Cemetary so would not appear on the Menin Gate.
I then did a search on the CWGC website for H Munns listed  on the Menin Gate and only one appears a Private Harry Munns 16864 Northamptonshire Reg died 31/7/1917.
Having brought this to your attention I would like to also applaud the Agnews for taking the time to seek out one of there villagers who died for there freedom.
Yours Denis Smith (Barnack)

The Buttercross Club
The meeting on Wednesday, June 7th, was well attended. The Reading Room in Bainton looked very welcoming; bunting decorated the hall and there were pretty flower arrangements on the tables. Members were greeted with a glass of wine and were then invited to sample a selection of 8 delicious homemade puddings. The people who had prepared the desserts also provided copies of the recipes. It was  a really lovely, relaxing evening.

Little Lambs is a lovely, welcoming and very popular toddler group for mums, dads, grandparents and carers with babies and toddlers from birth to 4 years.  It takes place each Tuesday during school term time, from 10am -12noon, in Barnack Village Hall.
During July there will be Little Lambs sessions in the Village Hall as usual on the 4th and 11th. Then on the 18th July, our last session before the summer holidays, we are going to meet up in Burghley Park to play and have a picnic.  We will be there from 10am but if it is raining we will meet up at Barnack Village Hall instead.  Little Lambs will be back again after the summer on September 12th.
Each session at the Village Hall starts off with the hall set out with toys and games, home play corner, tunnel and slide, books and dressing-up, and an area with rugs and cushions for mums and babies. We have a craft activity – perfect for creative little hands - and a jigsaw or playdough table.  Just before 11am we clear away the toys, set out tables and serve tea, fresh coffee and cakes for the adults and a snack bowl of fruit and a biscuit for the children – a popular time with everyone. This is followed by a short bible story and lots of songs with actions usually led by Rev Dave on his guitar – lots more fun.  Afterwards, with the hall cleared, there’s ten minutes or so for the toddlers to let off a bit of steam whizzing round on cars and trikes before going home for a well-earned rest.  We look forward to meeting you.  Little Lambs is run by Barnack Church – for further details please contact Julie Stanton 07885563128.

On Sunday 9th July, starting at 4pm,  we will be having a summer celebration in the paddock at the Rectory, Millstone Lane, Barnack, with games and activities and a short very family friendly service.   Nearer the time we will post more information about what will be happening at Messy Church in the Paddock on the ‘Barnack Parish Church’ Facebook page, or you can contact Rev Dave Maylor 740234.
Messy Church is great for children with their families and all who are young at heart, and we warmly invite you to come along and join in the fun.

Coffee Stop meets every Wednesday during July and is held in Barnack Village Hall from 10.30am to 12.00pm, (please note the new time) in the side room which is all set out like a proper coffee shop.  We serve cafetière coffee, lovely homemade cakes, scones and toasted teacakes all at very reasonable prices.   We have a play corner for little ones who come with mums, dads and grandparents.   It is a good place to meet up with friends and to make new friends or for a break when out for a walk - just drop in whenever suits you.  Open to everyone - we look forward to welcoming you.    Please ring Anita Clark 740841 or 07880604186 if you want to find out more.

Benefice Prayer Breakfast
“What are you doing at 8.30am on the first Saturday of each month? Why not join us for our monthly Prayer Breakfast? This is principally for the four churches in our group - Barnack, Bainton, Helpston and Wittering, but everyone is welcome. It is held in Botolph’s Barn, Church Lane, in Helpston. We usually pray for about half an hour, then have a delicious breakfast of freshly baked homemade bread (Rev Dave’s speciality!), together with jams, honey, marmalade etc and fresh coffee. See you there next time on Saturday1st July 2017

The month of June has been a busy one for the club.  On Saturday, 10 June, we had a very successful BBQ, Pimms  and strawberries evening which was enjoyed by over 50 members and friends.  The weather was kind and this new social event could become a fixture on the calendar.  It is hoped to hold a similar event too at the end of this season so if you missed this last one, watch this space!
On the following Wednesday, the good weather continued and 22 teams from the Club and surrounding area took part.  The eventual winners were the team of Ray Deaton, Stan Goodacres, Pam Grey and Richard Christopher who are members of the U3A Group  based at the club.  The U3A Group first started at the Club last year and so have come a long way in a short time.
Events planned for July are the Fours Competition Day on Sunday, 2 July and the second of the Fun Afternoons on 16 July.  The first Fun Afternoon was not very well supported and so now that everyone is in the swing again, it is hoped more will come along and take part.
The winners of the 200 Club for June were:
50    Margaret Broadbelt    £50
66    Susan Jarman    £30
71    Jennifer Hutchins    £20
31    Stan Goodacres    £10
