‘Friends of the Hills and Holes’

Public meeting & Launch event: Saturday 23rd November 2pm, Wilfrid Wood Hall, Barnack

Hills and holes friendsNatural England have announced an exciting new venture for the Village, the formation of a ‘Friends of the Hills and Holes’ Group, to increase the involvement of the local community in running the site, provide a forum where local people can contribute ideas and be kept informed about decisions affecting the area, and support Natural England  in managing this Internationally important Nature Reserve for the future .

It would be an independent Group, with its own Committee and budget.

What would the Friends Group do?
It would Inform people about the Reserve through newsletters, leaflets, websites, and social media, and help people enjoy the site through walks, talks, and events. It could do practical things to help look after the site – habitat management, site maintenance, or checking livestock; and help to monitor rare species and carry out surveys. It would develop its own projects based on members’ interests – for example photography, history or archaeology

orchidWho would be in the Group?
A great variety of people: Residents of Barnack and other local villages and towns; visiting Naturalists and photographers; regular dog walkers and  joggers; Students and researchers; Local Councillors and farmers; Schools, Businesses, and societies. In short, anyone who cares about the Hills and Holes and would like to join with us to help safeguard its future.

Please come and join us on November 23rd to help launch the group and contribute your ideas.  For more information contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
