– Even With Fear And Uncertainty.
With everything that’s gone on in 2020 it wouldn’t be surprising if people are wanting to make 2021 the best year ever and setting bigger, bolder goals and having more clarity around what they want to do in their lives. I know I certainly have.
But with bigger bolder goals there is always an element of fear lurking underneath which can just seem to hold us back from taking the actions that are needed.
This fear can often come from a fear of being uncertain, a fear of not knowing if it will work out, that it will be a success, if the decision you’re making is the right decision or will the effort that are required to achieve the goal is even going to be worth it in the end.
Uncertainty can keep us stuck and paralysed, but it doesn’t have to be this way. We can use uncertainty to unleash our ability to take the actions where they need to be taken, and to push you into a depth of fear that is actually a really useful fear.
So how do we do that?
First we can accept WE JUST DON’T KNOW.
There seems to be a longing and a desire for life to go as we expect it to, it seems to come with the territory of being human. If we can accept that we actually don’t know if it’s going to work out, if this is the right job for me, if this is going to be successful, if I book this holiday now for the summer is the weather going to be sunny or will it rain for two weeks? Who know’s? We just don’t know. When we accept this then there’s a relaxation and a little bit of a release to that desire to need to know.
If it’s difficult for you to feel good about uncertainty, ask yourself why? Take some time to write down a few reasons why it’s uncomfortable for you to feel good about uncertainty (begin with an easy small subject).
Think right now how many people in this country alone is also struggling with fear and uncertainty just the way you are feeling it and wondering what will life look like in the future. Somehow when we connect to others who are struggling, it can help us feel more connected to the world. It can help us understand that what we are feeling is totally normal, which helps us become friends with our fears.
Does trust, belief and faith lesson the feeling fear? When we take small steps and walk through our fear this creates a great deal of growth. We start to trust, believe and have faith in ourselves, so that when we are facing uncertainties we can at least have ourselves as a resource for certainty.
Throughout our lives we are continuously on a path, the only control you have is to decide which path you’re going to take, this could be asking for a raise at work, asking someone on a date, or deciding to speak up or to remain silent and understanding in a relationship. We can’t ever know or be absolutely certain that what action you choose is the right one. Uncertainty is just part of the many mysteries of life.
