Christmas spirit
The Christmas tree carol singing event will be held on Friday 10th December from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. It will start in Ashton and move on to the tree that will be on the Pinfold this year. In the unlucky event of rain, the Reading Room will be used. More details to follow and will be on Facebook – search Bainton and Ashton Facebook page and “like” it for regular information and updates.
The Open evening is shut! Or ajar.
Unfortunately, the Open Evening cum annual meeting of Bainton and Ashton Parish Council to be held in the fabulous new Reading Room is to be postponed from 26th November until the spring – when it is hoped that better weather will be upon us and less Covid will be amongst us.
Children’s Film night?
Councillor Jon Hargreaves is happy to organise a film night in December for children in the villages. It sounds like a great fun event and easy to organise – just need to know if there is an appetite for helping and attending. What do you think? Get in touch with Jon if you are happy to help. Enhanced Response Area status
The Parish Council has learned that Peterborough and rural areas have become an Enhanced Response Area, for at least 5 weeks from 1/11. There will be or will have been more communication coming out about this I’m sure, but it means that due to high levels of cases and pressure building on the NHS and other services going into the winter months, residents are asked to do all they can to bring infection levels down eg more mask wearing in enclosed and crowded areas, regular testing after coming into contact with a positive case, get their vaccinations and consider meeting outside where possible. Schools will be adopting increased measures too.
Good neighbours
It is important to remember that neighbours may be lonely in this strange and at times scary world, especially as the cold, dark evenings are now upon us.
Do you know your neighbours are ok? Could you call round to check and offer to help with anything? There are still “Good Neighbours” operating officially and they would welcome any input or information that might lead to less loneliness. Barnack & Pilsgate Parish Council Update
Barnack Parish Council met at the Village Hall on Monday 8th November. The following is a brief summary of some items discussed at the meeting – for the full Minutes please visit www.barnackparishcouncil.org, look on the village noticeboards or contact the clerk for a copy.
Defibrillator Training
Ufford, Southorpe and Barnack have joined together to organise some First Aid training. This will be run by the Community Heartbeat Trust in Barnack Village Hall, @ 7pm on Tuesday 7th December. There is no need to book, just come along on the night.
The Queen’s Green Canopy
In recognition of her Platinum Jubilee which we will be celebrating next May, the Queen has launched an initiative to plant more trees. We have purchased a Wild Service Tree and in co-ordination with the Church, this will be planted in the churchyard by Adam Frost at 1pm on 12th December. Spectators are welcome to come along to the planting.
*Unsafe Trees*
Please take care when walking along Chapel Lane, particularly in high winds. Five elm trees have been identified as near end of life and should be removed shortly. Although they didn’t come down in the recent high winds (unlike the large tree in the churchyard!), they are still of concern. We are arranging for the damaged tree in the churchyard to be pollarded to make it safe.
Brown bins – we have been advised that these will not be emptied again until at least next year. Residents should use their black bins for garden waste or take it to the Household Recycling Centre in Peterborough.
Christmas Tree Lights
The lights will be turned on 11th December and the sleigh will be travelling through the villages. From 4.30pm in The Square, Barnack.Mulled wine and mince pies will be served. There will be a carol service at 8pm in Barnack Church.

20/1770/CTR – 12 Whitman Close, to fell large conifer.
