Bainton and Ashton Parish Council news
Police visit
At the time of writing, as part of a rural engagement initiative, Sergeant Rose, from the Northern Neighbourhood Team based at Thorpe Wood, came to meet residents on the afternoon of Sunday 26th March. This is a welcome move and hopefully well supported to good effect. Next date proposed as 17th June.
Speeding/traffic calming
Initial (one new month’s) data since the installation of the new Auto-Speedwatch camera, indicates a reduction in numbers of cars speeding along Barnack Road. This is good news however more monitoring is needed, and a long-term effect seen. The Parish Council continue to look at the issue and have allocated more money in the 23/24 budget for additional measures. The resident action group are continuing to liaise with the police over the monitoring of the data.
King’s Coronation
At the time of writing, two meetings have been held to decide what the village should do to celebrate and recognise the Coronation on the weekend of 6/7/8th May 2023. The Reading Room will be open for viewing the proceedings on a big screen and the village will be decorated, plus a villages group photograph and tea, cake and Pimms in the Reading Room after the photo on Monday. There will be also be volunteering activities There will be volunteering activities on Monday 8/5 and more will be communicated nearer the time. Anti-social behaviour (ASB)
There has been an issue with ASB in Highfield Road on and off over the years. Recently, the police have recommended that residents should report anything suspicious online or by ringing 101, unless it is an emergency. They advise not to approach anyone acting suspiciously and putting themselves at risk. The police are helping by patrolling the area and asking Peterborough City Council to tidy the area and a recent litter pick was carried out by local residents.
Annual meeting of the Parish and the Parish Council
The next meeting is on 9th May 2023 and this is the Parish meeting starting from 6pm with summaries from village groups of the year’s activities and a chance for the public to raise any parish issue of concern and then the annual Parish Council meeting follows.
Barnack Road stone wall
There have been concerns raised for some time over the condition of the Barnack Road stone wall – it is thought to be dangerous due to crumbling and broken sections and inhibits the passage of pedestrians with overhanging foliage. The Parish Council has requested safety surveys to be done on the wall by Peterborough City Council, in order to push for some action to address it, as it is not owned by the Parish Council.Jenny Rice, Clerk

Barnack & Pilsgate March 2023
Barnack Sports Court.
With spring just around the corner, why not join Barnack Sports Club and make use of the multi-use sports court. Popular activities include tennis, basketball, netball and 5-a-side football. Residents from Barnack, Pilsgate, Ashton, Bainton,Southorpe andUfford are all eligible to join for just £25 per household per annum.
The court is open outside of school hours and until 6pm in Winter and 9pm in Summer (or dark if earlier).

Following the resignation of David Laycock, who we thank for his many years serving on Council, Barnack need a new Councillor. If interested, please visit our website or contact the Clerk for more information. For only a few hours each month, you can help to make a difference to your community.
Litter and Fly-tipping
On 11th March the village ran a Litter Pick. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped to clean up our village.
A bulk waste collection is scheduled for 29th April. Please bring you items to Manor Farm between 10 and 2pm.
If you see fly-tipping, please notify the local authority by using FixMyStreet.com, it only takes 5 minutes and is the quickest and easiest way to make them aware.
