Planning
• Draft Local Plan. David Shaw attended our recent Annual Parish
Meeting to explain more to residents about Peterborough City Council’s Draft Local Plan which has been published.
David explained how this will affect Barnack & Pilsgate and how residents can make a comment.
The deadline for commenting is 29th May and can be done via Peterborough City Council’s website – Local Plan – complete the form & return by post or email.
• Change of use of land planning application – 25/00450/FUL.
Barnack Parish Council is a statutory consultee for the planning application for the change of use of land on Uffington Road.
The Parish Council will object to the application on planning grounds.
The topic was discussed at the Annual Parish Meeting, which confirmed that many residents will be commenting.
The deadline for commenting is 23rd May.
Community
• VE Day. The VE Day event was thoroughly enjoyed by the parish. A big thank you to Sally Hullock for organising the event.
• Bulky Waste Collection. Booked for Saturday 7th June, 10am-2pm. Location Bainton Road, Barnack.

News from Bainton and Ashton Parish Council
Annual meetings
The Parish Council held their annual meetings on Thursday 8/5/25 and there were 12 people present for the parish meeting, including residents, representatives from village groups and the new Ward Councillor, Kevin Tighe plus a representative from Anglian Water, who explained all the work that has gone on to the improve the systems and prevent sewage and flooding. It was an informative session and good to mingle and catch up on activities. The annual council meeting saw Ms Susie Lucas re-elected as Chairman again, and Martin Lucas as Vice Chairman. It was re-iterated that more residents are needed to step up and join the council. Please do consider this and apply.
Poors Charity
This exists to help anyone in the parishes who is struggling and needs a boost of funds. The charity is undergoing some changes in admin and will be advertising for a new clerk. They made no donations to anyone last year and so an appeal goes out now for anyone who needs to apply to the charity to get in touch via me and I will pass it on or direct and in confidence to nigelrclough@aol.com.
Telephone box in Bainton
The Parish Council has officially adopted the historic, red phone box. It will be re-painted (thanks to Rob McNeish) and will be kitted out with shelves for old books for anyone to borrow/swap.
High Field Road, Ashton
This has long been an issue with men regularly meeting up for “anti-social behaviour”, being seen in their cars in the daytime. The local police have been doing extra patrols and taking action when possible. More needs to be done to stop the resulting erosion of the protected and special wildlife verges and litter, as well as the “ASB”. Peterborough City Council are intending to install bollards and signs to protect the areas from worsening and control visiting cars, along with some Parish Council CCTV to capture offenders.
Play area refurb
The grant of 25K should be forthcoming very soon and works will start with Timotay asap for the installation of new equipment and improvements to the area. Exciting times for the summer holidays hopefully.
Audit of accounts
The audit of finances has been successfully completed for the year ending 24/25 and anyone wishing to view the accounts is to make an appointment with me the Clerk.
