Bainton and Ashton Parish Council 

Maintenance
The Councillors recently did a walkabout of the villages and also met a Peterborough City Council Highways Officer to look at parking on Tallington Road around the turning into Beever Way. The Officer is going to look at costs to convert what is left of the verge to highway to allow more driving space, as the road has crumbled in parts too. Parking is limited all round villages and often a problem but on the plus side, this does reduce the speed of the traffic. Other options like double yellow lines etc are not preferable due to the rural village status of Bainton. The Parish Council continues to press for action by Peterborough City Council on the dangerous Barnack Road wall and see some overgrowing vegetation has been removed but stone repairs are still needed. The information board near the church needs some attention as it is hard to read now – investigations will start with a view to work and costs considered in next year’s budget.

Planning
The Enforcement Team at the local Planning Authority are investigating the case involving the site along Helpston Road, where it appears that a change of use has occurred and cars are stored along with many tyres and also some trees have been removed and concerns are high that this has not been permitted.
Local residents may want to see plans for large, new housing developments at Helpston and comment on the application, as well as the consultation on the new Peterborough Local Plan that shapes the development of the city and surrounding villages for the next 20 years. This includes calling for more sites for development, village boundaries and meeting national housing targets. Check the City Council planning website for more details.

Speed reduction and enforcement
The Parish Councillors and the Traffic Calming Action Group are pressing for more action to be taken by the police with the data available from the AutoSpeedwatch cameras. Speeding continues to be an issue by some regular offenders, although the presence of the cameras does reduce speeding.
Plans to introduce a 20mph limit throughout the ward villages are going ahead and Bainton will be included and start the ball rolling with the money in this year’s budget.
