The Parish Council held its annual parish meeting and its annual parish council meeting on 4th May. It was well attended with 16 members of the public and the Parish Councillors there to hear from the various village groups and the council reporting on their activities over the past year. The reports from each group are on the council website if you’d like to see what the Poors Charity, the Allotments Association, the Reading Room, the Traffic Calming, Chairman’s summary, Finance and Nature Recovery groups and more have been up to. The minutes of the meeting will detail more too.
The parish council meeting saw the re-election of Councillor Susie Lucas as Chairman and Councillor Cliff Stanton to a new Vice-Chairman position. There was also the signing of all the statutory finance reports and internal audit report – which was all clear. These will be uploaded to the website soon and residents can ask to inspect the accounts during the period on the notice if they so wish, starting 5/6/23.
The current issues of traffic calming/reducing speeding and the condition of the Barnack stone wall were discussed, and there are continuing to be progressed with the relevant authorities. It is slow going but action is taking place. Indications are still that overall, there are less vehicles speeding along the Barnack Road but more needs to be done. Additional measures will be looked at this year – 20mph throughout the villages and a 50mph between the villages is being pushed forward, plus other measures such as signage/line painting. The wall is causing concern as it is deteriorating and crumbling dangerously, and PCC Highways/Legal services are involved to contact the landowner to address this before it blocks the pavement/road. The council is also looking at new gov.uk email addresses for Councillors so that personal emails are not used due to potential data protection issues.
