Southorpe Parish Council
The Parish Council met on 13 September, all serving Councillors were present. Mrs Sue Joy was welcomed to her first meeting as a Councillor.

The Chairman noted that, following previous discussions with Highways, the red surface bands at the either end of Main Street had been repainted; the 30 mph markings have not though been reinstated and the Clerk was asked to contact Highways to hasten these and also to ask for an update on the Parish Council’s request for rumble strips. The Chairman was pleased to note that police speed checks have taken place more regularly in the village. The Speedwatch equipment has though not been used recently; more volunteers for this scheme are still required and local training is available from PC McCallum, anyone interested can contact him directly or through the Clerk.

Councillor David Over gave an update on the City Council’s financial situation and planning policies. He advised that he was seeking grants from the Neighbourhood Council for the Ward to include Barnack pre-school development and verge markers to indicate areas of wild flowers.

It was agreed that an application for a grant of £500 be made to the Community Leadership Fund for future environmental projects and an application for a Natural Environmental Projects Grant of £225 to fund bird and bat boxes to be distributed throughout the village. There was concern at the recent thefts of garden furniture, these had taken place at night. Residents were advised to be vigilant in reporting to the police any unusual vehicle movements in the village. Planning – consent had been granted for the felling of a sycamore on Sutton Heath Road close to the A47.

The next meeting will take place on Monday 6 December at Gamekeepers Lodge at 7.30pm, residents are welcome to attend.

 

Ufford Parish Council Sept 14th
1.Speed Signs Speeding traffic is still a major concern for residents and UPC agreed to buy two signs, one to be installed at the Walcot Road entrance to the village and the other at the Marholm Road end as that is where the traffic flows and speeds are highest. We were expecting a financial contribution from the City Council but it now seems that this will not be forthcoming. The parish clerk is writing back to remind them that most other villages already have speed lights and that recently they paid for lights in Central Ward.

2.Village Design Statement Some residents may remember that in 2002 we all had a chance to express our opinions and priorities about future development in the village, for example design and building materials, building in back gardens, important views, walls and so on. We now have an opportunity to update this document, which planners will have to refer to before making decisions about planning applications. If any residents are interested and can’t find their copy of the booklet, please let Frieda know as there are a few spare copies and be sure to attend the next parish council meeting when it will be discussed.

3.Internet and computer facilities Is there anyone in the village who would use a laptop if the parish council bought one and kept it in the village hall? Is there anyone who would like some instruction in using the internet and sending emails? If so please let one of your parish councillors know.
