Community
Bulky Waste collection dates for 2026. Two dates to make a note of for bulky waste collections – 9th May and 7th November. This is open to residents of Barnack & Pilsgate only. Further information will be provided closer to the date.
BPC has formalised the setting up of the ‘Street Scene’ Working Group. The group will be run by volunteers who will help with the general maintenance of the village to keep it looking nice and tidy. For example, bulb planting, wall clearing and other tasks. If this would be of any interest to you, please contact the Clerk.
BPC has identified several tasks that could be undertaken for Duke of Edinburgh Award. These include street sign refurbishment, road sign cleaning, foot way overgrowth removal and similar tasks that would enhance the village. For further details please contact the Clerk.
A polite notice, please clean up after your dog and if a dog waste bin is full, please dispose of the waste appropriately.
Please continue to report all crimes no matter how big or small via the neighbourhood policing online reporting portal, unless it’s urgent then by telephoning 999. The portal can be found via the following – https://www.peterboroughpolice.com/en/report/report.aspx
CIL money – Community Infrastructure Levy. Ideas are most welcome on how this money could be spent to support development in the village. Please email the Clerk any ideas you have. A few ideas have already been presented but all ideas are welcome and will be considered.
Please keep an eye on the noticeboards and the community Facebook page for the clubs which take place in the village hall and any upcoming events in the village.

Planning

Current planning appeal applications – The Orchard and The Vineyard, Uffington Road, Barnack. The hearing with the Planning Inspectorate took place on 3rd March at Sand Martin House. BPC awaits to hear further.
A report has been sent to the Planning Policy Department at PCC copying in Burghley, detailing BPC’s views on housing allocation in the neighbourhood area.
Highways
BPC are currently working on speedwatch and traffic calming measures within the village. A Road Safety Working group is in the process of being set up. If you would like to help combat speeding in the village, help with road safety measures and feel you could contribute, please do contact the Clerk.
The Future of Local Government
Local government in Peterborough and Cambridgeshire is undergoing major restructuring. Thank you to those of you who took the time to complete PCC’s online survey.

Additional points
• There are currently two Parish Councillor vacancies. Please note, if too few councillors exist for the Parish Council to be quorate to hold meetings and make important decisions, Peterborough City Council may intervene, potentially leading to the Parish Council being managed by them. If you live in either Barnack or Pilsgate and being a Councillor is of interest to you, please do contact the Clerk.

Ufford Parish Council Update

The UPC met on the 10th March at 7.30 pm in the village hall. Our meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month unless otherwise specified. Members of the public are invited to address the council with regard to any agenda item. Furthermore if there are any matters or concerns which affect the village our clerk can be contacted by email. Planning
All planning and tree work applications which are notified to UPC by PCC can be viewed on the PCC website. Generally UPC defer tree work applications to the Tree Officer at PCC. Other planning applications are discussed and, when deemed necessary, comments are sent to Peterborough Planning. At our recent meeting two applications were discussed and comments noted. Two further applications were at the stage of awaiting decision.

Speed Limits
Any changes to speed limits through Ufford will involve consultation with residents. This will be led by PCC. Currently PCC are not at the stage of consulting with us. Councillor Wilde has met with our Barnack Ward Councillor, Kevin Tighe, to find out more and to look at some proposals. Kevin has circulated draft plans setting out proposed additional speed limits throughout the parish.

Village Matters
A resident addressed the council over a planning concern. UPC were already aware of the issue and had been in contact with Peterborough Planning Department to seek clarification.
UPC acknowledges the excellent work by the Village Hall Committee to enhance the social and cultural life of the village. UPC were informed that the committee take their responsibilities very seriously and all checks at the hall and all maintenance are carried out meticulously and with health and safety at the forefront. UPC agreed to explore continued financial support for the VHC, including a potential upgrade that would offer better acoustics in the hall.
Our next meeting will be held on 14th April at 7.30pm in Ufford Village Hall. Residents are invited to attend.

News from Bainton and Ashton Parish Council

Annual Parish Meeting (APM) for residents
The APM this year is being held on Thursday 23rd April 2026 at 7pm. This is a chance for residents to meet and hear from all Councillors and hear updates from village groups and speakers. Residents can also raise any issue they wish with their Parish Council and give their feedback and views. Please do come along and take the opportunity to hear more and say more!

Recruitment of Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer
At the time of writing, the outcome of the interviews for a new Clerk are not known. Interviews will be on Monday 23/3/26 and hopefully a positive decision made at the meeting later on that date. An announcement will be made in due course and the Parish Council looks forward to working with them from April onwards.

Goodbye/Au Revoir
As this is the last article I will write as Clerk, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the Councillors, past and present, and residents I have met and worked with over the years for their help, input, commitment, invaluable skills and experience and support shown to me. I have really enjoyed my time at this Parish Council and will miss liaising with everyone, however I will be around the area still and bump into you I’m sure, whilst I have a little more time for my family.
