Barnack & Pilsgate July 2023 Update

Coronation Tree
Permission has now been given to allow the tree to be planted at Sissons Close and a suitable tree is being sourced. Details of the planting to follow in due course.
Village Maintenance
• The cemetery has been tidied up and the spoil heap removed, and works are planned to repair the kerbing.
• The village flag poles are soon to be repaired, to allow flags to be hoisted easily.
• The replacement Church gates, same style in oak, have been commissioned and will soon be installed.
Planning: new or revised applications
a) Additional Shepherds Hut at The Vineyard. Planning Compliance Complaint 23/00053/ENFACC. Councillors continue to have concerns with relation to the suitability of the septic tank installation and the use of the caravans. All residents are asked to be vigilant and if any waste is seen to be flowing in ditches outside of the property, to notify the Clerk immediately so the authorities can be notified.
b) 23/00769/CTR – Pilsgate House, Pilsgate – Cedar – Reduce height by 4m and pull in lateral growth by up to 2.5m. Barnack Parish Council raised no objections.
c) 23/00842/CTR – Close House, Barnack – Trees (5 elm, 4 sycamore & 2 ash) to be felled and new planting (2 oak, 2 lime). Barnack Parish Council raised no objections to felling to allow access, but have asked to be consulted on the location of the new trees.
Planning: recent decisions
a) 23/00439/LBC – The Orangery, Burghley Park: Set of doors to be removed and replaced to match adjacent existing doors.Permitted.
b) 23/00632/CTR – The Grange, Barnack: Fell, multi-stemmed conifer tree. Permitted.
c) 23/00487/NONMAT – Non-material amendment to Roof, reference previous 18/01908/HHFUL at The Barton Pudding Bag Lane Pilsgate Stamford. Determined.

On these long summer days, it is a great time to make use of our Sports Court. The court is open outside of school hours and until 6pm in Winter and 9pm in Summer (or dark if earlier). Clerk Recruitment
Debbie Lines has now passed the baton to Karen Bean who has started as the new Clerk. The Councillors have thanked Debbie for her hard work and commitment, and warmly welcomed Karen to the team.

Bainton and Ashton Parish Council News

Village maintenance
There are a few maintenance issues being addressed in the village at present. Peterborough City Council were asked about the dead branches on trees on the Pinfold and some epicormic growth on trees opposite the church on Tallington Road. They have inspected the trees and will carry out the necessary, remedial works – and they may be done by the time this article is published.
The Parish Council had raised an issue with the site of the old BT exchange and is pleased to see that a planning application has emerged to deal with demolishing the old buildings, tidying up the area/driveway, whilst keeping the old kiosk in its current location.
You might have seen some changes at an agricultural yard site off Helpston Road recently. The Parish Council has raised a concern with Planning Enforcement at the Local Planning Authority over this activity, as there appears to have been no planning applications, and they are dealing with it.
The Buttercross memorial has been looking like it needs some remedial work for some now This will need to be carefully managed so not to damage it and to maintain some of the existing foliage and advice is being sought. Ownership of the Buttercross has always been a mystery and work is afoot to establish this. If anyone has any information, please step forward!
Family Day
The Parish Council had a stand showing the sterling work of the Nature Recovery Group and Councillors were on hand to answer any questions or concerns – there were no issues raised from visitors and lots of positive comments about the work of the Parish Council – thank you to Cliff and Julie Stanton for providing the displays and cutting information.
Allotment Association
All allotment plots are occupied at present and to meet issues such as time pressures, plots are of a varying size to suit the occupants’ needs. A notable feature is that at least five plot holders have involved young children in growing plants. The Association continues to interact with the wider community; a recent curry evening was held at the site which was open to all and drew on the culinary skills of a plot holder, an Association stall was put up at the Bainton family day and an ‘open morning’ will be held in August to give local residents a chance to see the opportunities provided by the allotments.
