HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR BAINTON & ASHTON PARISH COUNCIL?
To ensure you know who the Parish Councillors and Parish Clerk are and what they do, here is a summary;
Councillor Susie Lucas (Chairman)
Susie leads on Human Resources (HR) and new projects, such as the Good Neighbours Scheme and Community Action Partnership.
Councillor Pete Charlton
Pete leads on all things finance related and council policies.
Councillor Anita Phillips
Anita leads on planning issues and community schemes such as Good Neighbours, Christmas in the Community and the recent Bright Ribbon donation campaign.
Councillor Cliff Stanton
Cliff leads on police liaison, Neighbourhood Watch, Speedwatch, village assets and maintenance plus the new Langdyke Trust Parishes Nature Recovery Plan.
Councillor Chris Womack
Chris leads on new council policies and new projects such as the Bainton in Bloom and improved cycleways.
Parish Council Clerk Jenny Rice
Joined the council in December 2019 and works 5 hours per week.

• At the meeting on 26 May we received the annual updates from the Allotment Association, Buttercross Club, St Mary’s Church PCC, Neighbourhood Watch, Speed Watch, Reading Room Committee, Ward Councillor and Rural Champion. (cont on p13)
• Chairman, Susie Lucas summarised BAPC activities in her annual report – available in full on our website. We do not have enough space in these pages to focus on detail but we do as a parish council extend a sincere vote of thanks to the people who it is really all about, the many volunteers and residents of Bainton and Ashton who really do contribute so much to the life of our community.
All these reports from village groups, with some lovely photos,are available to view on our website in the absence of the Parish Council Annual Villages meeting and planned Open Evening event.
We welcome input and ideas from our community and so pleased that many are already involved in the Good Neighbour Scheme, John Clare Partnership Project and the Community Partnership.

Barnack Parish Council
Barnack Parish Council met via Zoom conference on Monday 8th June. The following is a brief summary of some items discussed at the meeting – for the full Minutes please visit www.barnackparishcouncil.org, look on the village noticeboards or contact the clerk for a copy.
Peterborough Hub – Peterborough City Council has set up a Local Community Hub to support vulnerable residents across the area as an extra support to the volunteer networks already formed within our local villages. Visit www.peterborough.gov.uk/coronavirus for more information.
Neighbourhood Plan – Coronavirus has put the consultation period for the Plan on hold temporarily (as advised by PCC). If you wish to read a hard copy of the Plan, please contact the clerk.
Speedwatch – Traffic through the villages increases as lockdown eases and speed limits appear to go unnoticed. The Police have advised that speedwatch sessions cannot be held currently, but they will re-visit this decision in a few weeks.
Casual Vacancy – There is a vacancy on the council following the retirement of Ivor Crowson.
MUGA – BPC support Barnack Primary School with a proposal to site a Multi-Use Games Area within the school grounds (see note within Parish News for more info).
St Martin’s Development (Cummins Site) – A consultation held via Zoom recently was attended by Cllr David Over and BPC Councillor Sophie Moore. They reported that the scale of plans for a commercial and mixed residential development are the size of a large village but thoughtfully landscaped. A traffic survey suggested that increased traffic through Pilsgate and Barnack would be minimal, but this would seem to be unlikely. Cllr Over suggested there may be facilities useful for the villages – such as a shop or doctors’ surgery and the housing would benefit Barnack Primary School, but traffic and congestion on Barnack Road remains a concern. BPC will submit comments to SKDC.

20/00471/LBC & 20/00418/HHFUL, 29 School Road (caretaker’s cottage) – Proposed vehicular access and dropped kerb. Awaiting decision.
20/00659/NONMAT – Uffington Road – Non-material amendment application for the realignment of the footway to Uffington Road.
20/00663/CTR – 5 Saxon Road Barnack Stamford – Tree works Cherry plum (red) remove. Cherry (blue) reduce by approx 2 metres max.
Ufford Parish Council
Ufford Parish Council met via Zoom conference on Tuesday 9th June. The following is a brief summary of some items discussed at the meeting – for the full Minutes please visit www.uffordparishcouncil.org.uk, look on the village noticeboards or contact the clerk for a copy.
Barnack Ward – Ward Councillor David Over reported that all the parish councils are using Zoom for their meetings. The villages have organised support networks for those that need assistance during lockdown. The recent demonstrations in Cathedral Square for Black Lives Matter were organised with good social distancing, but we may see a Covid peak in the area in a couple of weeks.
Nature Recovery Project – Richard Astle of the Langdyke Trust has set up a project to create, launch and deliver an ambitious and accessible nature recovery area across the rural areas west of Peterborough, designed, led and supported by residents. UPC agreed to set up a separate working group meeting to begin discussions. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more.
John Clare Countryside – Partners of JCC are looking at ways to improve access to the countryside for the people of Peterborough by developing plans that include encouraging cycling and walking across the area and ensuring footpaths and bridleways are well maintained and clearly marked.
