Southorpe Parish Council

The Council met on Wednesday 6th May. It was a busy evening with three meetings being held :the Annual Meeting of the Parish, the Annual Meeting of the Parish Council and the ordinary May Council meeting. Four Councillors attended and one member of the public.
During the Annual Meeting of the Parish, Peter Corder (Chair) gave a report on the previous year which is available on the Council website.
At the Annual Meeting of the Parish Council, Peter Corder was re -elected as Chairperson for the coming year. Policies and statutory documents were reviewed and approved. The following Councillor roles were agreed:

At the ordinary Council meeting Peter Corder reported back on the Police briefing on the 28th April. Speeding still remains a big concern in the Ward. The police encourage residents to report anything suspicious via 101 emphasizing that nothing is too small to report.
The Council approved the financial year-end paperwork. The Clerk has commenced her CiLCA (Certificate in Local Council Administration) qualification with the Council’s full support .
An application to the Woodland Trust for new hedging for the village field was successful, this will be planted in November. It was suggested to have a community village tidy-up in September including any small jobs that would enhance the village. Further details will be shared on the village Whatsapp group and noticeboard.
The next Parish Council meeting is 22nd July at Barnack Village Hall at 7 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Bainton & Ashton Parish Council

Bainton & Ashton Parish Council continues to remain active across a wide range of community, environmental and local infrastructure matters as we move into the 2026/27 council year.
The Parish Council recently held its Annual Parish Meeting in the Reading Room, providing an opportunity to reflect on the past year and discuss priorities for the future. Residents heard updates on traffic calming, flooding and drainage concerns, environmental projects, planning matters, and improvements to local amenities.
One of the major achievements during the past year has been the successful refurbishment of the Bainton play area, funded through a £25,000 external grant. The new equipment and improvements are already proving popular with local families and represent an important investment in the parish’s younger residents.
Traffic and speeding remain a key concern for many residents. The Parish Council, working alongside local volunteers and Peterborough City Council, continues to monitor the effectiveness of the 20mph measures introduced in Bainton. Auto Speed Watch cameras and further traffic data collection are helping build evidence for additional measures, where appropriate. Discussions also continue across the wider Barnack Ward regarding coordinated approaches to rural road safety.
Environmental work also continues to expand. The Nature Recovery Group remains active through the John Clare Countryside initiative, while recent work at the Sheepwash has improved both access and wildlife habitat. Further interpretation, signage, and maintenance works are planned during the coming months.
Flooding, drainage and sewage infrastructure remain ongoing concerns in both villages. The Parish Council continues to work with Anglian Water, Peterborough City Council, and other agencies to ensure local issues remain firmly on the agenda, particularly following recent residents’ concerns about drainage and surface water management.
The Council is also entering a period of transition. Following the resignations of former Chair Susie Lucas and Councillor Martin Lucas, the Parish Council is seeking to co-opt new councillors to help represent the community moving forward. Residents interested in supporting local decision-making are encouraged to contact the Clerk for further information.

Barnack & Pilsgate Parish Council Update

Community :BPC would like to thank resident Donna Sackree for organising another successful littler pick. A big thank you to those of you who took part in helping to keep the village clean and litter free.
The Party at the Pavillion & The Villages’ Horticultural Show is being held on Saturday 27th June, 12pm-5pm. Lots of summer fun to be had.
BPC has formalised the setting up of the ‘Street Scene’ Working Group. The group will be run by volunteers who will help with the general maintenance of the village to keep it looking nice and tidy. For example, bulb planting, wall clearing and other tasks. If this would be of any interest to you, please contact the Clerk.
BPC has identified several tasks that could be undertaken for Duke of Edinburgh Award. These include street sign refurbishment, road sign cleaning, foot way overgrowth removal and similar tasks that would enhance the village. For further details please contact the Clerk.
A polite notice, please clean up after your dog and if a dog waste bin is full, please dispose of the waste appropriately.
Antisocial behaviour – please continue to report all crimes no matter how big or small via the neighbourhood policing online reporting portal, unless it’s urgent then by telephoning 999. The portal can be found via the following– https://www.peterboroughpolice.com/en/report/report.aspx
CIL money – Community Infrastructure Levy. Ideas are most welcome on how this money could be spent to support development in the village. Please email the Clerk any ideas you have. A few ideas have already been presented. All ideas are welcome and will be considered.

Current planning appeal applications – The Orchard and The Vineyard, Uffington Road, Barnack. BPC is still awaiting the outcome of these.
Highways: Highway safety remains a key priority. BPC are currently working on speedwatch and traffic calming measures within the village. If you would like to help combat speeding in the village, help with road safety measures and feel you could contribute, please do contact the Clerk.

Please note, if too few councillors exist for the Parish Council to be quorate to hold meetings and make important decisions, Peterborough City Council may intervene, potentially leading to the Parish Council being managed by them.
